New Civil Service Mileage & Subsistence Rates – What Directors, Employers and Employees need to Know
On January 29, 2025, the Irish government updated Civil Service mileage and subsistence rates, impacting travel expenses for businesses and public sector employees alike. If your company reimburses employees based on these rates, here’s what you need to know.
Key Updates to Subsistence Rates:
Overnight Allowance (100km+ from home & work):
- Standard Rate: €205.53 (up to 14 nights)
- Reduced Rate: €184.98 (next 14 nights)
- Detention Rate: €102.76 (for subsequent 28 nights)
Day Allowance (8km+ from home & work):
- 10+ hours: €46.17
- 5-10 hours: €19.25
Dublin Vouched Accommodation (VA) Rate – If suitable accommodation exceeds the standard overnight rate, employees can claim the actual cost (up to €205.53) + €46.17 for meals.
Why This Matters for Company Directors
If your business reimburses staff for travel & subsistence, you may need to adjust expense policies to reflect these new rates.
The Dublin VA Rate is critical for companies with employees who struggle to find accommodation within standard rates.
Ensuring compliance with Revenue-approved rates helps avoid tax complications.
Action Point: Review your company’s expense policies and align them with the latest rates to stay competitive and compliant.
